I have made a few cutting boards, but never a juice groove. This board was my first attempt at juice groove and also my first monogram engraving. I made a lot of mistake with the juice groove that I share in the video below. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes so you can make a juice groove in a cutting board too!
I forgot to mention in the video what bit I was using. I used a half inch core box bit. Just like this one.
I set my router down on the board where I wanted the groove to go and just placed a 2x4 fence at the edge of the router baseplate. Then put spacers in between the board and the 2x4 fence to lock the board in place. The only catch is those spacers need to be the same height or lower than your board.
Then you're good to go! The problem I had in the video was that I was rotating the router in the wrong direction. I should have gone clockwise against the fence. Not counter-clockwise.
Because my router does not have a plunge base I just kept taking shallow cuts until I got to the depth that looked good! (Well, after all the mistakes I made...)
